Kanye Visual Listening Party

September 4, 2007

Kanye recently had a super-exclusive listening premiere party for his new album. He had crazy visuals with lighting and lazer effects. Guests invited to the theatre were treated to free popcorn and boozie smoothies plus an open bar. Even cooler is that they were all given plastic sunglasses in replica of the ones he wore in his Stronger video. Tell me where I can score a pair of these? Plastic or not.

Rubber Band Man Wild As The Taliban

July 17, 2007

T.I.P. is a crazy bastard. So he’s still threatening fans at his shows. Rock stars get glass bottles and shit thrown at them. He’ll get a water bottle and freak the hell out. I understand that shit ain’t cool, noone wants to get hit. But you ain’t the only one partner (he says partner a lot). Get over it or get a damn net. Apparently he leaped off the stage to strike a cup thrower with his mic this time.

Kanye at the Princess Diana Concert

July 5, 2007

Here’s the Kanye performance at Prince William & Harry’s Concert for Diana. He’s an asshole but he’s still the greatest asshole out there. I love watching the rich white folks sway to the music. How can you only give Kanye West seven minutes? Of course he had to try and play all his hits real quick so they’ll be like “oh…yeah….that’s who this black guy running around is”. (I’m so sick of hearing ‘Gold Digger’.) I do love how he was practically running around that stage, granted if this was a real concert he’d be out of breath within minutes but he had to prove himself here. For the record, I really like ‘Stronger’. Noone can top Kanye right now. I’ve seen Nas recently…and even Nas wasn’t this good.

The best part is how he ended the show with Jesus Walks With Me’ and then said his thank yous & blessed Diana while having ‘niggas, niggas’ chanting in the background. Noone does it quite like Kanye.

Lady Sovereign’s Breakdown

May 22, 2007

“America F’s you Up! Fuck America!- Lady Sovereign

After opening for Gwen Stefani earlier, Lady Sov makes her way to a Brooklyn club for another set where she completely loses her mind and has a mental breakdown. After making the audience wait at least 90 minutes she arrives at 3:30 and left by 3:55 after bitching and complaining. She only sings two songs and goes on to say she’s being evicted and is only doing the show for the money. She repeatedly says how they don’t know her & just wouldn’t understand. Would you pay for this? She says she’s depressed, broke, doesn’t want to do this show, and hasn’t been able to create anything new. Is this anyway to treat your fans if you want more shows….for more money? Well everyone is human, everyone has their breakdowns. I just love how the guys screams bullshit after she complains how poor she is. Girl, haven’t you learned anything from MC Hammer? Stop spending money on ridiculously exspensive flats and slogan t-shirts 5 sizes too big for you.

Camille Rose Garcia Exhibit

May 6, 2007

Camille Rose Garcia is having her first solo exhibit at the San Jose Museum of Art from May 12th till September 23rd. Her show is called “Tragic Kingdom”.

black-dawn.jpg

The Show Description:

  • Garcia’s work stems from growing up in the suburbs of Orange County and making frequent visits to Disneyland, “the happiest place on earth.” The artist quickly grew to recognize its artifice and contradictions, and she witnessed the realities of privileged suburban life - adolescent alienation and social marginalization. Her precious glittered compositions are infused with a sense of discontent, yielding works that are simultaneously disturbing and attractive.
  • Garcia is a notable member of a Los Angeles underground contemporary art movement known as the “Pop Surrealists” or “Lowbrow” artists, who combine dark surrealism with an eclectic array of pop culture sources, including comics, animation, and 1950s television. Garcia is particularly influenced by Walt Disney, punk bands like the Dead Kennedys, and sci-fi writer Philip K. Dick. In addition, she draws upon diverse artistic and cultural sources, such as the work of her former teacher Paul McCarthy, illustrations by nineteenth-century artist Aubrey Beardsley, myths and fairy tales, and Japanese art, specifically traditional woodblock prints and the anime inspired work of Yoshitomo Nara and Takashi Murakami. From these references, she has crafted both a style that is unique and content that is a good deal more political than the work of her contemporaries.

To celebrate this event, Dark Star Orchestra will do a recreation of the legendary concert. Tickets for the show are on sale for $24.50 at www.stateofithaca.com.
