Ghetto Metal is a grass-roots underground collective, a hybridization of musical styles including metal, rock, hip-hop, funk, soul, spoken word and raggae, all of which exist as interrelated forms of urban music. At the forefront of this amalgamation of musical styles is a rising movement spearheaded by rock/hip-hop recording artist Bazaar Royale, hip-hop recording artist and activist M1 of Dead Prez. (Also DMX)
Based on the ideology of the Black Rock Coalition Movement of the 1980s, Ghetto Metal strives to reinvigorate the shared vision of guitarist Vernon Reid and journalist Greg Tate which the constrictions the commerical music industry placed on black alternative artists. Twenty years later, Ghetto Metal aims to remind audiences of the universality and transcendence of musical genres.

Meet B-Lite: jokester, funny guy, lover, rapper, also in a pop electro band. Lots of old school & 80s throw back. I’m going to get shot for this but his song “Wall-Mart” reminds me of Grandmaster Flash. http://www.myspace.com/b__lite
My favorite band right now is Plastic Little. This four man hip-hop crew from Philadelphia released their last album a few months ago but I still can’t get over how much I like them. They lean into lots of different categories as a band. I’m not normally one into jokes and humor in music but they pull it off so well and still maintain to be a serious band. If anything their goofy humor brings an extra advantage to their music & gives them something the competition does not. They add a unique flavor to the hip-hop world. They bring sick beats and mix it with other types of music and can call themselves more than just a hip hop group and fit into many other music genres. They are breaking down barriers that define rap and are not anything like your average g-unit jump off. They’ve got the talent and the ability to bring in the big names to collaborate with them on their album.
It’s a blatant ripoff of Napoleon Dynamite, but who gives a damn? This has a central story line where as Napoleon did not. And this one is aimed more for adults rather than high schoolers. Plus it’s straight out of New Zealand. The plot outline says “Eagle vs Shark is the tale of two socially awkward misfits and the strange ways they try to find love; through revenge on high-school bullies, burgers, and video games.”
